It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

This makes me extremely happy.

Yes, I am one of those people that absolutely love anything to do with Christmas. I start Christmas shopping and watching Christmas films as early as I can get away with. My all time favourite Christmas film being ‘Santa Clause the Movie’.

Last weekend my local council put on a reindeer and Santa parade in the town centre and I think that kick started the Christmas countdown for me.

The build up and anticipation for the big day gets me so excited every year. I used to wonder if that excitement would subside as I grew older. It hasn’t!

Now I am a mother it is a different excitement though. I suppose when I was younger my excitement was quite selfish in nature, revolving around the gifts I would receive.

Christmas has always been about spending time with family but when I was younger I would also look forward to:

  • Christmas parties
  • Seeing in the big day with a group of friends in a nightclub
  • Receiving numerous expensive gifts
  • Splashing out on expensive gifts for friends and family

As I’ve grown older and become a mother, the things I love about Christmas have changed. Receiving gifts isn’t important to me now, I just care about making the day special for my daughter and family.

I don’t want a lot for Christmas, there is just one thing I need…

I appreciate Christmas a lot more now than I used to. Christmas has to be about spending time with family and that is the only thing I need. But some of the other things  I love about the Christmas are:

  • Making list after list of all the presents I am buying for friends and family (I love going through the Argos catalogue and making a gift list!)
  • Decorating the Christmas tree with my family, Christmas songs playing in the background. And a mandatory glass of Eggnog!
  • Making new traditions with my little family (Christmas Eve box, handmade Christmas cards, Christmas crafts..)
  • Going to see Santa
  • Buying new pjs for Christmas Eve
  • Making and receiving handmade gifts

Oh I wish it could be Christmas everyday…

Okay, it would be really expensive if it was Christmas every day but if the festive spirit could be transferred to our every day lives it would be amazing.

The occasion seems to bring out the best in everybody, and everyone always seems so much happier.  It would be fantastic if we could all feel as happy as that all year round.

I feel even more festive this year because my sister is hosting the family. The family usually come to my house for Christmas day so it will make a nice change to be waited on!

I would love to hear what you love about Christmas time.

I’m feeling unusually festive this year for some reason and have actually just written a post about this myself. I love christmas fayres, and spending time with the family and nobody judging you for drinking lots of alcohol because everyone else is doing the same. My son just started school this year so I’m looking forward to seeing him in his first school play. Christmas shopping I don’t like so much but I find it a lot more tolerable now that I can do it all online 😉

(Unhinged mummy stopping by from #marvMondays).

Awww sorry you’re not feeling very festive yet. I can’t wait until my daughter’s in the school plays. She’s only 2 so I’ve got a while to wait yet ha. X

  • Wendy

Ohh this post has made me feel so festive. I’m so excited for it thus year, my eldest is 3 and it’s the first Christmas he’s been excited for santa to come and it will also be my babies first Christmas. Hope you have a lovely time at your sisters xx #marvmondays

    • stressymama

Awww thank you. My niece is 3 and she’s extremely excited about Santa coming. She keeps telling us all she’s been a good girl so Santa’s coming to her house, and that he will leave presents for her if she leaves her dummies out so Santa can give them to all the babies haha x

  • Kat

I really do love working on our own family traditions for Christmas and enjoy it so differently as an adult, even more so as a mum! #MarvMondays

    • stressymama

I have such fond memories of Christmas as a child but I can’t wait to make new traditions and memories that my daughter will look back at as fondly as I do my memories x

  • organisedjo

You are so right about how Christmas changes when you have a family. Seeing the girls happy faces on Christmas Day just makes it for me. Making our own family Christmas traditions too is also so much fun. Enjoy the rest of the festive period, don’t peek too soon! #MarvMondays

    • stressymama

Thank you. Love that “Don’t peek too soon” haha. Knowing me I will probably have had enough of it all before Xmas day 😂😂

    • stressymama

Oooh that sounds lovely. I love both of them things. This Xmas eve we will be visiting my mother in law in the morning and on to lunch and presents for the kids at my mums. Then home to enjoy the rest of the day with our little family and we will give our daughter her Xmas eve box. Really looking forward to it.

  • Something About Baby

I could have written this post myself – in fact, my facebook memories brought up this morning that I had dressed Alfie in his first Christmas outfit of the season this time last year, so I feel like I’m slacking! We did make our Christmas cake at the weekend though, and will be putting up our tree this weekend, so we are ready to get into the swing of Christmas when December hits! I’m so much more excited this year now Alfie is a bit older, and I think it’s just going to get even more magical with every year that passes! #MarvMondays

I really can’t wait until my daughter is a little but older and she knows what Christmas is all about ☺

    • stressymama

I’ve ways been a Christmas lover but my daughter and niece definitely make it more exciting.

  • Rhyming with Wine

I’m with you! I am such a Christmas fanatic it just can’t come early enough for me! I love making new traditions too like Christmas Eve boxes and making tree decorations and cards etc. We create new traditions each year – December is just not going to be long enough for us to fit all the sparkles into haha. #MarvMondays x

I love it. It’s just amazing. I love doing all crafty things with my daughter and niece and going to Christmas events. Definitely the best time of the year x

  • joysofamum

I couldnt agree more. Since the wee man has come along everything is better. Christmas is my favourite (I am literally Buddy the Elf) I can’t wait to experience our first Christmas with him. #familyfun

Christmas with children is so amazing. I do have a bad habit of going over the top with the presents for my daughter though. She’s still only 2 so doesn’t know what they are for yet. Ha x

  • Alana - Burnished Chaos

Christmas is so much more magical when you have young children. I love the anticipation in the days before, I love buying all the presents, I love the smell (and taste) of homemade mince pies and I love the kids climbing into our bed to open their stockings before we head down to see what’s under the tree x

  • tammymum

oooh you are not going to like me. I am generally not a Christmas fan, well ok I wasn’t but this year I am embracing it full throttle. I have a one and two year old and I want nothing more than to make it amazing for them, so much so I have started my prep now and I am normally a christmas eve present buying kind of gal. So perhaps we will get on eh….:) thanks for sharing at #FamilyFun xx

    • stressymama

Haha. I’ve always loved it. My sister has always been the complete opposite though. To the extent that I would buy and wrap her presents, and buy and write out her Christmas cards. She isn’t quite as bad now though because she has a 3 year old. Her inner scrooge does appear every now and then though x

  • Amie Richards

Christmas is my all time favourite time of year and it’s our first as a family of four so it’s going to be so much fun! Amelia is 19 months old and starting to ‘get’ it a bit more with a happy ‘ho ho ho’ every time we mention the word Christmas! I love gift lists too 🙂 #MarvMondays

    • stressymama

My 2 year old doesn’t quite get it yet, but she does get excited when I mention the word Santa. Although I’m not sure she knows why she’s excited. She has said she wants presents though come to think of it, so many she does get it a little bit more than I thought.. haha x

  • twotinyhands

I’m starting to appreciate Christmas a lot more since starting my own family. In the past it was just another day. Now I get to see it through my sons eyes and it’s a little bit more exciting again!! Thanks for linking up to #familyfun

    • stressymama

I can’t wait until my daughter is a little bit older and she really understands the magic of it all x

  • themotherhub

It’s lovely to have something to look forward to. I love going to Xmas fairs with the kids and strolling around the stalls with a hot chocolate #fortheloveofblog

    • stressymama

Oooh me too. I haven’t done that so far this year but I’m really looking forward to it x

  • My Petit Canard

I love Christmas too, as a December baby it is may absolute favourite time of year. Everything just feels so magical and exciting when you have little ones. I agree that it changes once you have children, but definitely for the better. Reading your post has made me feel even more excited, especially as december is around the corner now! Thanks for sharing this on #MarvMondays. Emily
